What is SEMS?

SEMS is an acronym for Sustainable Event Management System.

SEMS is a world first comprehensive, transparent and robust sustainability management system.

Implementation of SEMS reduces the economic, social and environmental impact of the event, simultaneously reducing and measuring the carbon footprint simultaneous providing a reporting mechanism for attendees, staff, customers, shareholders.

SEMS focuses on:

. Educating event organizers, contractors and supply chain on sustainable best practice when managing an event
. Enabling event managers to track, report, and compare the sustainability performance of the events they manage
. Produces results and reports on the environmental, social and economic impacts of the production of an event or meeting
. Sets benchmarks and industry standard for best practice and beyond best practice
. Offers consistency with Britsh Standard 8901soon to become an ISO (international standard)
. Measures carbon and waste impact

SEMS has an inbuilt rating or scoring system that enables a sustainability measurement be calculated for an event. Reports allow for data to be captured resulting in the ability to set benchmarks, targets and goals. Upon the release of an industry benchmark (2010) certification for industry standard, best practice and beyond best practice will be set.

How does SEMS work?

The SEMS process involves a number of stages. It is entirely up to the client, the extent to which they participate in this process

. Carbon Module: (series 7 carbon and waste calculators)

. Automatically generated self-assessment reporting

. Audit: External third party (optional)

. Certification(upon release of benchmark)

Importantly through SEMS' world first technology, the organizer is able to delegate responsibility of collecting and chasing data, therefore workload becomes time and resource efficient. This function "ASSIGN" assists the organiser in assessing best practice suppliers and contractors and their commitment to sustainability.
